
Brandon D. Shuler, PhD
Principal & Chief Wordsmith
Brandon D. Shuler, PhD is an award-winning author, communicator, filmmaker, and professor.
Shuler works as a natural resources conservation consultant for Seagrass Management LLC, supporting a wide range of causes, from international environmental groups to local estuary programs. He is CEO of the American Water Security Project and principal of Encino Media, LLC.
Previously, Shuler was a marketing and communications manager for Getaway Adventures Lodge, executive director of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, and Professor of Environmental Science and Policy at USF St. Petersburg. He currently teaches Communications at the University of Tampa.
As an outdoor writer, Shuler has been a masthead contributor for Shallow Water Angler, Texas Sporting Journal and Lone Star Outdoor News, and a frequent contributor to Sports Fishing, Saltwater Sportsman, and Outdoor Life. He has authored, edited, and published three books: Glory of the Silver King: The Golden Age of Tarpon Fishing; New Border Voices; and S.E. Alaska’s Inside Passage: The Vanishing Wilderness. Shuler also co-wrote the documentary St. Pete Unfiltered, which raised awareness of St. Petersburg’s chronic sewage and stormwater issues.
Shuler has served on numerous boards, from the American Fly Fishing Trade Association to the Texas Outdoors Writers Association. Shuler also sat on the Pinellas County Parks and Conservation Advisory Committee.
He holds undergraduate degrees in sports science and communications from the College of Charleston. He also received a graduate degree in English from the University of Texas and earned his doctorate in English at Texas Tech University with a focus in literature, social justice and the environment and a secondary focus in book history and scholarly publishing.

Evan Smith

Evan Smith is a full time commercial photographer and video production professional. Originally from West Palm Beach, Florida he has been in the film industry since 2003.
Evan has served on the board of directors for the Gasparilla Film Festival, where he started the Tampa Bay High School Film Competition which he remains the director of today.
In addition to his work in the commercial space, Evan is active in the documentary film space, including the award winning documentary St Pete Unfiltered with Encino Media principal Brandon D. Shuler. Evan has won the 48 Hour Film Project with the 2023 Tampa Best Film, the Gasparilla International Film Fest Audience Award Best Short Film 2017 and the Audience Award Best Florida Production 2018
Evan has done extensive commercial work for the tourism and hospitality industries in the Turks & Caicos, the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Belize.
